Northern Pyramid Cricket Competition

Equity, Equality, Diversity & Inclusion Policy

Equality, Diversity and Inclusion policy of Northern Pyramid Cricket Competition (NPCC) is to adhere with England Cricket Board’s Anti-Discrimination Code and the UK’s Equality Act 2010 to protect and maintain the integrity, diversity and inclusivity of cricket.

The Anti-Discrimination Code was replaced in 2025 by the Anti-Discrimination Regulations - with mandatory requirements for the Regulations to be adopted and implemented by leagues and clubs.

NPCC aim to create, within league management and executives as well as encouraging associated/affiliated clubs and their members, an environment in which no individual, group or organisation experiences discrimination or acts in a discriminatory manner on the basis of a Protected Characteristic (as defined in the Equality Act 2010 – which at the time of writing are age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, sex or sexual orientation).

As a cricket competition NPCC is determined to ensure equality, diversity, and inclusion in cricket to make sure everyone feels that cricket is a game for them. Inclusive clubs benefit overall as members from diverse backgrounds are attracted, potential availability of a diverse range of volunteers, increase in number of players and form cohesive cricket communities.

It is recognised that for many families these are challenging economic times, in some cases, and particularly in junior cricket financial considerations may present a barrier to inclusivity. Clubs are asked to consider all reasonable measures they might adopt to help reduce this potential obstacle with respect to their summer schools and coaching schemes for children up to an including Key Stage 3.

Equity, Equality, Diversity & Inclusivity (EDI) Officer: the role

A NPCC EDI Officer has been elected and is supported by EDI Officers who operate across member leagues.

It is the role of the EDI Officers to present issues to the Pyramid Executive Board, League Executives and Management Committees for consideration.

The NPCC EDI, Officer will also liaise with their counterparts on other recreational cricket leagues in Lancashire and with the Lancashire Cricket Foundation.

Equity, Equality, Diversity & Inclusivity Officer: contact details

Our Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI), policy has the following recommendations: -

  • For all involved in recreational cricket there are significant resources and training material available on EDI under the Cricket regulator, ECB and Lancashire Foundation websites for information and knowledge enhancement.
  • All NPCC and league executives must undertake any/latest Cricket Regulator or ECB on-line training modules as and when available via the above links.
  • It is strongly recommended that club executive officers and team captains also undertake the same on-line training modules as and when available via the above links.
  • The Cricket Regulator’s Anti-Discrimination Unit introduced a new, interactive online e-learning package called ‘Introducing the Boundary’. It aims to equip everyone with the knowledge and skills to minimise and challenge discrimination, both on and off the field (this training can be booked using the below link).
  • All clubs are asked to review their own membership policies to ensure they remain inclusive and welcoming.
  • All clubs are strongly recommended to nominate from their own committees, an EDI point-of-contact person who should be visible and accessible to club members with their name, photograph and contact details displayed on the club noticeboard.
  • Where concerns or incidents of note occur within the confines of a club, it is expected that these will be addressed in the first instance by the club executives and club EDI officer. Where such concerns have not been satisfactorily resolved within a reasonable timeframe or are deemed of complex and difficult to be dealt by the club committee/executives these should be reported under General Conduct Regulations & Anti-Discriminatory Regulations to the NPCC Discipline Officer and league EDI officer with an additional report to the NPPC EDI Officer.

  • Should an incident of note occur during a league or cup fixture then this should be reported to Match Day umpires and to the club and league EDI Officers who may seek additional evidence before presenting their report and recommendations to the League Executives. The incident should also be reported to the NPCC Discipline Officer for consideration of action under the ECB General Conduct Regulations (GCR).

  • EDI Issues arising that are outside and beyond the scope of NPCC and League Executive Committees will be referred to the Lancashire Cricket Foundation and the Cricket Regulator.
